OH COME, EE-AWW FAITHFUL! HINCHLIFFE’S FARM SHOP HELPS PUT ON MULE-TIDE PERFORMANCE AT LOCAL CARE HOME

Residents at an Ideal Care Home in Meltham got more than they bargained for when they ordered their usual mug of Tetley this week – four hooves and two furry ears!

Instead of a warming cuppa, residents at Greenacres Care Home in Meltham were treated to a cuddle with Hinchliffe’s resident donkey, ‘Tetley’, during the home’s annual nativity performance.

The Netherton farm shop organised for Tetley to visit the home to ‘bray’ a special role in the nativity, alongside 20 pupils from St James Church Pre-School in Meltham.

“Tetley was well behaved throughout the show,” says Hinchliffe’s Simon Hirst. “And when the children sang carols, Tetley could even be seen nodding his head along to the music!”

Transported to his debut by Holme Valley Heavy Horses; the children fed Tetley with carrots to keep him happy during the show, and after entertaining the audience, Tetley was taken around to meet the residents for some well-deserved pats on the back.

Greenacre Care Home receptionist Anne Shaw said it was a magical event. “The children couldn’t believe a real-life donkey was joining in the show,” said Anne, who organized for residents to have a Shire horse carriage ride at Hinchliffe’s this summer. “Tetley was fantastically behaved and the residents absolutely loved him – I’ve already asked the home manager if we can adopt him!”

Tetley the donkey is just one of a menagerie of animals on show at Hinchliffe’s Open Farm, where families can come face to face with rhea birds, alpacas, pygmy, wallabies, pigs and other fascinating creatures.

Greenacres is one of 26 care homes operated by Ideal Care Homes owned and run by Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson.
