THE CROWN INN RECOGNISES A RESIDENT’S OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
The Crown Inn at Great Ouseburn, North Yorkshire held an ‘award ceremony’ on Thursday 15th December to crown elderly local resident, Clarry Franklin the community champion; recognising his significant contribution to the local community.
Despite being in his 80’s himself, Clarry shows remarkable dedication to the local residents, whether it’s collecting their newspapers from the village shop, his weekly trip to Boroughbridge to collect resident’s prescriptions, braving the bad weather to shovel snow off the footpaths during winter, tending to the gardens of the elderly or entertaining villagers with his piano playing.
Chairman of Great Ouseburn Parish Council, Keith Scott said: “Clarry is a selfless man who always puts the needs of others first. His cheeky wit leaves all those who pass him on the street with a smile on their face – a true village stalwart.”
“He brings a smile to everyone he sees, from a good morning in the main street, to lifting the hearts of so many when he entertains at the village’s Spring festival. Clarry has a generous heart in the heart of the community” said local resident, Anne Tankard.
Elderly residents of the village gathered at the hub of the village, the Crown Inn for their annual celebratory Christmas lunch where the award was presented to show their appreciation to Clarry.
Great Ouseburn resident, Patrick Rose said: “For as long as I can remember I’ve seen Clarry out and about in the village each morning carrying out chores for the other elderly villagers. There isn’t a day goes by when he isn’t good humoured and friendly – his joyful greeting in the morning blows away any overnight gloom.”
The award has been instigated by proprietor of Yorkshire Pub of the Year, the Crown Inn, Liz Jackson: “Clarry is such a well know and liked character by everyone in the village and is a regular here in the pub. We wanted to show our thanks for everything he does; many of the elderly residents in Great Ouseburn are reliant on him and his dedication to the villagers is remarkable – he’s an inspiration to us all!”
